미탄
여전히 희망은 부족하고 고통은 넘치는데
관념으로 뭉친 저 너머의 세계가 끝나가고
노련하고 섬세한 감각의 세계가 몰려오네
견뎌야 할 고요의 위험이 많은 미탄에서
나는 동강할미꽃처럼 벌거숭이로 서 있다네
서울에서 둘러메고 온 고독을 부려놓고 나니
재치산 넘어 별들이 우르르 속절없이 내려와
저들끼리 한바탕 춤추며 나를 축복해 주네
손바닥만 한 몇 평 땅뙈기 위에 농막 하나
내가 나를 아는데 무엇을 더 바라겠는가
자두가 열리면 벌들과 개미들 불러 잔치하고
참외가 익어가면 달님이 내려와 속삭이고
대추가 열리면 바람이 몰려와 추수하고
새록새록 눈이 내려면 나는 고독에 겨워
미탄의 불꽃처럼 위험한 고요를 즐긴다네
부서지기 쉬운 삶의 의미도 버려 버리고
평등에 대한 욕망도 사라져 버리고 나니
보이는 건 방치되어 있는 미탄의 자연뿐
흐르다가 숨고 숨다가 다시 흐르는 동강에서
나는 지루하고 더디 가는 인생을 찬미한다네
Still, Hope Is Scarce, Pain Overflows
Beyond the realm of rigid thought, a world fades,
While a world of keen, delicate senses advances.
In Mitan, where dangers lurk in silent endurance,
I stand bare like a wild columbine.
Leaving behind the solitude I carried from Seoul,
Stars tumble over Jaechi Mountain,
Dancing wildly among themselves, blessing me.
On a patch of earth no larger than a palm,
A small hut stands—
Knowing myself, what more could I seek?
When plums ripen, bees and ants gather for feast,
Melons sweeten, and the moon descends to whisper,
Jujubes ripen as the wind rushes in to harvest,
And when fresh snow falls, I am overwhelmed by solitude,
Reveling in Mitan’s flames of perilous calm.
Shedding fragile meanings of life,
Letting vanish desires for equality,
Only the untended nature of Mitan remains in sight.
In the Donggang River, flowing, hiding, flowing again,
I praise a slow, tedious life—
A life unhurried, yet fully lived.
